CVE-2017-1000353
Jenkins Remote Code Execution Vulnerability
Jenkins Jenkins
Jenkins versions 2.56 and earlier as well as 2.46.1 LTS and earlier are vulnerable to an unauthenticated remote code execution. An unauthenticated remote code execution vulnerability allowed attackers to transfer a serialized Java `SignedObject` object to the Jenkins CLI, that would be deserialized using a new `ObjectInputStream`, bypassing the existing blacklist-based protection mechanism. We're fixing this issue by adding `SignedObject` to the blacklist. We're also backporting the new HTTP CLI protocol from Jenkins 2.54 to LTS 2.46.2, and deprecating the remoting-based (i.e. Java serialization) CLI protocol, disabling it by default.
Exploitation status
CISA Known Exploited Vulnerabilities
Listed by CISA on 2 October 2025. US federal agencies were required to remediate it by 23 October 2025.
EPSS — exploitation probability
FIRST puts the probability of exploitation activity in the next 30 days at 99.7%, which is higher than 99.9% of all scored vulnerabilities. EPSS is a forecast of activity, not a measure of severity, and it is rescored daily.

How should organisations respond to CVE-2017-1000353?
Apply the vendor patch for Jenkins Jenkins as the first priority, and treat any internet-facing instance as the most urgent. Because this vulnerability is associated with ransomware activity, also review whether the affected systems were reachable before patching, rather than assuming that patching alone closes the incident.
